You are invited to join Encino Neighborhood Watch!
Our goal is to establish a system for residents to share critical information and provide support regarding criminal incidents, suspicious behavior, nuisances and the means to mobilize in the event of an emergency.
In Neighborhood Watch you will get to know and work with your neighbors to:
- Recognize and report crimes and suspicious activities
- Learn to better protect yourself, your family and your property
- Check neighbors’ homes when they are out of town or you hear their alarm
- In times of need, ask for help from your immediate neighbors and offer assistance to your neighbors
- Work with LAPD to solve and prevent crime in your neighborhood
Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program that enlists the active participation of residents in cooperation with law enforcement to reduce crime in the community. Each member is the eyes and ears of the neighborhood. Neighborhood Watch works by having you and your neighbors use simple techniques to deter, delay and detect crime to improve safety, increase the sense of security and enhance the quality of life in your neighborhood. Meetings are held regularly with the LAPD Senior Lead Officer for Encino and members of Encino Neighborhood Watch.
Get started by filling out the sign-up form below. We will put you in touch with your block captain if your home is part of an existing Neighborhood Watch. And if it's not we will help connect you with neighbors to start a Neighborhood Watch.
Studies show that the Neighborhood Watch Program is one of the most effective and important anti-crime strategies in the country. Neighborhood Watch reduces crime! Some other benefits of Neighborhood Watch program include: an increased sense of responsibility and control, increased sense of personal security, greater unity within neighborhoods, improved relations with law enforcement, improved quality of life.
The Encino community is broken into a network of micro-communities of up to 20 homes called “blocks.” Each block will have a volunteer Block Captain as its point person. Block Captains will maintain a roster of the residents in their Neighborhood Watch group and pass along security-related news and information to the members.
Neighborhood Watch is not the same as Facebook or WhatsApp even if these groups call themselves "Nighborhood Watch." Many communities have larger Facebook groups and WhatsApp chats which have some aspects of Neighborhood Watch but these formats are not Neighborhood Watch and have significant differences. However, Block Captains will create small message groups for their block to facilitate fast and easy communication between members.
You do! Neighborhood watch groups are independent clusters of neighbors. This website is not the Neighborhood Watch. You are. This website is maintained by volunteers in Encino to help their neighbors connect and organize. We will also support block captains, share safety related information, serve as liaisons to LAPD and notify members of upcoming events related to safety.
